I'M Astrid Reeves
Astrid Reeves' vibrant interpretation of the world around is expressed in her bold paintings that capture the lively colors and swirling abstract forms of nature itself. She is very innovative and has developed her own fluid art technique that she calls "breath art". These paintings are created solely by using her breath to push the paint around in delicate layers and patterns. This creates a unique look that no brush can create. Astrid is constantly looking for new ways to apply paint to the canvas to portray the vivid colors she sees, using mainly acrylics and watercolor. She loves to make others happy with her artwork and thus help make the world a better place.
She has participated in online and local shows. Several pieces of her artwork can be found in the Kathryn Higgins Art Gallery & Studio in Fairfax, VA. She also has her own Youtube channel (Astrid's Art Studio) where she demonstrates her technique and educates on her materials to help others improve their art practice. She is active in her community and is a member of the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce.
Inspiration
Inspiration for my paintings is all around me. I might look at a photo of a flower or colors outside or a pattern or combination of colors on a building or sign and think, 'That would make a great painting!' The color is always the starting point. I love color.
Techniques
I have developed my own technique that I call "breath art". I use just my breath to create shapes and delicate layers of color on the canvas. No brush can create an effect like that. It's truly unique.
